Govt, opposition hold separate meetings in Parliament
With the Opposition parties stepping up their attack on the NDA government over its demonetisation exercise in Parliament for the past six days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
The unrelenting Opposition has been adamant about Modi’s clarification on the demonetisation exercise.
On Wednesday, Modi attended Lok Sabha after skipping House proceedings for five days, but his presence failed to break the deadlock over the recall of high-value currency notes as the Opposition intensified its protests inside the House and outside.
In a bid to break the logjam in both Houses, the government has reached out to the Opposition with parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar holding talks with Congress and TMC leaders.
Kumar and some other leaders in the government will continue deliberations with floor leaders of various political parties on Thursday as well.
