Rs 3.25 crore seized in old currency from a hotel in Delhi; 5 detained
In a joint operation, the Income Tax Department (I-T) and Crime Branch on Wednesday seized a whopping Rs 3.25 crore in old currency notes from a hotel in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. At least 5 persons have been detained.
It was found during interrogation that the money belonged to Bombay based hawala operators, ANI has reported. The I-T Dept is conducting further enquiry.
Specialists were hired who packed notes in manner that it was undetectable by airport scanning machines, the news agency said.
The I-T Department has been conducting raids across the country after the Narendra Modi government announced the ban on high value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Huge amount of cash has been recovered in the I-T raids from different parts of the country.
