PM Modi chairs key meet on Covid-19, vaccination status amid concerns over Omicron variant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

chaired an important meeting on the Covid-19 situation and vaccination status in India on Saturday morning. The meeting was attended by top officials including cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba, principal secretary to the prime minister PK Mishra, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan and NITI Aayog member (health) Dr. VK Paul.

COVID IN INDIA

India registered 8,318 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is 21.1 percent lower than what was recorded on Friday morning. India’s cumulative caseload now stands at 3,45,63,749.

The five states which registered the maximum number of cases in Saturday’s fresh tally are Kerala with 4,677 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 746 cases, West Bengal with 710 cases, Karnataka with 402 cases, and Mizoram with 359 cases.

In the last 24 hours, India also reported 465 Covid deaths, taking the country’s Covid toll to 4,67,933.

At present, there are 1,07,019 active Covid-19 cases in India.

VACCINATION STATUS

India administered 73,58,017 Covid vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. The total number of doses administered in India so far is 1,21,06,58,262.
